Safariboat
Sheena
Southern Maldives

The
Sheena is an authentic Maldivian diving safari vessel under management
of Werner Lau. Comfortably furnished, it fulfils every divers wish.
Chris and Dani, whom many of you already know from Eriyadu and Vilamendhoo
resorts, and now diving center managers on Medhufushi, will be responsible
for the management of the vessel.
Diving
Sites
For the first time & exclusively, the Sheena will be offering
charters in the southern Maldives. Weekly tours as well as 14 day
full charter tours are offered, starting every Monday leaving from
Medhufushi Resort.
We will be diving untouched & unexplored reefs and channels in
the Meemu-, Laamu- and Thaa Atolls in the Southern Maldives.
On request, alternate routes travelling to Felidhoo Atoll (hammerhead
sharks) and South Ari Atoll (whalesharks) are also available.
The tours will include diving well known, top dive sites in the respective
atolls
as well as feature an element of “expedition”, diving to charter unknown
diving regions.
Sightings of mantas and whalesharks are almost guaranteed in the Meemu
Atoll. We are also certain that within a short period of time we will
discover some truly spectacular and untouched diving sites together.
Group and full charter tours can be arranged on request. Particularly
during the summer we offer the possibility of starting and ending
the tours in Male as well as 14 day tours.
The transfer by air taxi from Malé airport to Medhufushi takes
approximately 40-45 minutes.
Vessel
Design
This comfortable vessel under our management will be completely renovated
and modernized in May 2007.
The Sheena has a spacious salon, as well as several decks offering
either shade or exposure to the sun (in total there are 3 shaded decks:
in front of the salon, behind the salon at the stern, and behind the
cabins on the upper deck. In addition to the main sun deck, there
is also a second sun deck located in front of the wheel house), all
of which are furnished with sun loungers and mats.
Accommodation
Cabins
on the lower deck are also suitable for single guests and diving buddies,
as they are furnished with two single beds.
Both cabins located on the upper deck are larger, with an area of
almost 17sqm, and are furnished with double beds.
All 8 cabins (one of which is used by the diving instructor), have
en-suite bathrooms featuring all the usual facilities – including
a basin, toilet with a normal flushing system (ie. no complicated/unusual
flushing methods), and a hot & cold fresh water shower. There
is also naturally a continuous supply of power (220V).
Another
cabin, located on the main deck, is allocated to staff.
Wining
& Dining
Meals will primarily be served at a large table located outside at
the stern, but can also be enjoyed in the spacious salon at 3 large
tables.
A barbeque on one of the islands is also arranged once a week – undoubtedly
a highlight of every tour on the Sheena!
On request, a romantic candlelight dinner for two under the stars
on the sun deck, can be arranged.
There
is a well-stocked bar offering a wide variety of drinks for guests’
enjoyment in the salon and on the shaded deck.
Tea, coffee and water are available, free of charge, all day.
Diving
Equipment
The Sheena will be accompanied by a diving dhoni with a capacity of
transporting 18 divers. The guests’ diving equipment will be permanently
stored on the dhoni, as this is from where all diving will take place.
It is also possible to rent equipment from our fully equipped “island
diving center” on Medhufushi from where all tours will start.
However, guests should bring the main spare parts for their equipment
themselves, due to a limited supply on the vessel.
Diving
Two – three dives are scheduled per day, and night dives, 1-2 a week.
Our experienced diving instructors will offer all you could wish for
from a diving safari. As is customary
in the Maldives most of the dives will be drift dives. Planning the
route and diving schedule will be based on your requests. Dives will
generally be with the current, and we will be collected by the dhoni
wherever we surface. There will be also dives requiring a negative
entry (fast descent), and for a short distance, swimming against the
current in order to reach a particularly interesting part of the reef.
Classic Maldivian diving at it’s best! To participate in a diving
safari on the Sheena, each diver is required to show proof of at least
30 logged dives, and if possible, be in possession of an advanced
diving license from an internationally recognized diving organization
(eg. CMAS 2*, SSI advanced open water/advanced adventurer, PADI advanced
or equivalent).
The official diving regulations in the Maldives allow a maximum depth
limit of 30m. All other diving regulations are standard for international
diving associations. Above all else, we abide by our Number 1 rule
of diving: UOCS - the use of common sense.
Please note: It is compulsory for each diver to wear a computer, to
be in possession of a surface marker buoy, an alternate air source
and for the night dives per diver one torch as well as a strobe light
per buddy team. All equipment needed can be rent at our dive center
in Medhufushi.
