Diving Centers Werner Lau Medhufushi
Medhufushi Island Resort
Medhufushi lies to the east of the Meemu-Atoll, which is 300 km
south of Male. The island is 900 metres long and about 90 metres wide. There are only two tourist islands in the
whole of this atoll. Medhufushi features an exceptionally beautiful lagoon which is ideal for learning to dive
in -not to mention swimming, surfing and sailing. The virtually untouched diving sites, most of them suitable even
for beginners, await you with a stunning diversity of corals and tropical fish.
This elongated island is surrounded by dazzling white beaches and greatest care has been taken to develop it with
as little disturbance as possible to the environment. You will find plenty of welcoming shade among the untouched
tropical vegetation including palm trees, rubber plants, mangroves, and scaevola trees.
Accommodation
The island hosts a total of 125 single or double bungalows, including water bungalows. They are spaciously situated
around the island, leaving plenty of breathing space for your own privacy. Each of these bungalows is built to
5 star standards, has its own entrance to the beach and enjoys a beautiful view of the blue lagoon, yet due to
the undisturbed tropical vegetation, is virtually out of sight to those approaching the island.
The air-conditioned rooms are comfortably and elegantly furnished, each with its own terrace. They all feature
a mini-bar, telephone, TV, stereo unit, desalinated warm and cold water. Our guests are usually enchanted by the
half open bathroom which is almost as large as the bedroom!
44 water-bungalows have been built on stilts around the north side of the island. They offer the utmost in luxury,
the interior being fitted out in solid teak (a feature in all the bungalows) and include a sun-deck with stairs
leading straight into the lagoon, what more could you wish for?
Dive Center
The impressive Barakuda Diving School will be managed by Ferit and Chrissi. They are very experienced divers and
welcome you with a friendly crew of four staff. They are also skilful and experienced divers who's gentle and graceful
manner is particularly helpful to those who wish to learn to dive.
Equipment
This new and spaciously built diving centre has been designed by professionals to meet the special needs of Scuba-divers.
The school will be generously equipped to the highest and most modern standards. You will be able to hire what
you need from the following:
* 60 Jackets (Seemann)
* 40 Regulators with octopus, finimeter and inflator (scubapro)
* 60 Sets of masks, fins and snorkels (seemann)
* 30 Wet suits (shorties 3mm / Scubapro)
* 40 Diving computers (Aladin Pro)
* 10 Underwater lamps (Kowalski)
* 2 Underwater cameras
Workshop
The workshop is well fitted out to take care of the usual repairs and our guests are welcome to use it, just ask
our instructors for help if you need it.
Air tanks
80 Alu-tanks with 12l capacity can be refilled up to 215bar by two Bauer electro-compressors.
Safety
Oxygen and a first aid kit are available on each boat and our crew is specially trained to offer medical assistance
in any emergency which may occur. If necessary, we can reach the decompression unit on Bandos by seaplane within
45 minutes.
Dive Areas
The Lagoon
Ideal :
it couldn't be easier!
Starting at your front door, well directly in front of the diving school- soft white sandy slopes down to 12m.
The marine life around some large coral formations transform your dive into an aquarium experience.
Boat diving
We have 2-3 diving boats (Dhonies) which depart daily at 9.00 and 14.30. The various diving sites can be reached
within 5 - 60 minutes.
There is something for everyone. Many of our diving sites are situated within the atoll and they offer stress free
Easy-diving, however our diving ''Profis'' will definitely not be disappointed either. With our 'Speeddhoni' we
can reach divespots on the opposite of the atoll withhin half-day-trips. Our boat provides sweetwater and also
a toilette.
Night diving by boat will be offered once or twice a week, an experience which you should not miss.
2 - 3 times a week day tours will be available which take you to the spectacular channel sites to the west of the
atoll.
The Dhonies visit 2 or 3 different diving areas so you can choose the reef which is most suitable for your personal
interest and diving skills.
We offer around 30 different diving sites and it is our good fortune that they are frequented only by divers from
Medhufushi and sometimes from Hakura club. We cannot emphasise enough what an advantage this is!
We are only twenty minutes by boat from the two superlative diving spots Mulah-Kandu and Mulee-Kandu.
